Regional analysis and accessibility analysis of the Aachen region (2024)
The Aachen region consists of the districts of Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg as well as the city of Aachen and the Aachen city region. Located west of the major cities of Düsseldorf, Cologne and Bonn, it is located at the border triangle with the Netherlands and Belgium. 1.3 million inhabitants live there. The Aachen Region Association organises the cooperation of the partners and, as a governmental institution for regional development, supports the joint structural development for business and skilled workers, education and culture, health and infrastructure. The Aachen Region Association commissioned S&W to prepare a regional and accessibility analysis. The focus of the study should be on securing skilled workers. The subject areas highlighted are:
- the labor market with its industry and qualification-specific needs,
- the housing and real estate market,
- commuter connections as a reflection of the spatial relationships between labor and housing markets,
- the accessibility of the Aachen region for skilled workers,
- the demographic developments,
- the educational facilities such as schools, universities and facilities for continuing education,
- environment, leisure and culture as soft location factors.
The regional portrait is analytically supplemented by a comprehensive analysis of various national and international benchmarking studies from the perspective of the Aachen region.
