Retail-specific catchment areas of central places in Bavaria (2024)

The Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy commissioned S&W to delineate the retail-specific catchment areas of the central places in Bavaria. For this purpose, the S&W accessibility model for car trips is applied. Trip origins are the residential locations of the Bavarian population, based on the grid data from the 2022 census, and trip destinations are the central places of the various levels, represented by their settlement and supply cores. The retail-specific catchment areas of the central places are determined as population potential. By using different parameters, differents variants are analysed.
